Golf R and Scirocco posts are welcome. I've got wheels and tires on my MK VII I purchased 2 years ago, and before I do any engine based mods I want to work on the handling and ride of the car. I'm modding on a tight budget so I was looking into coilovers one day and my heart sank. Few options are available and it seems all the quality brands are charging out the ass.I went over to DAP to do some shopping and here's what I found.- ST Springs- BrauchBoth of these are extremely low price compared to say, the Bilstein models (which I guess go up in price due to dampening options, etc.) so I guess what I'm asking is which on, in your opinion, is the better choice.
Or is it worth it to just save up and bite the bullet on near $3,000 dollar suspension?. Are you setting this up for racing, auto cross, or just for looks/stance? Are you wanting to slam it to the ground or just looking to close some wheel gap?Asking because if you're just looking to slam it you'll be getting little to no benefit from a $3000 set of coilovers. There are fantastic options out there for half that cost and ones that'll work ok for even a quarter of that cost.Edit: (answer to your question) I would get the ST. They have the pedigree and hopefully the manufacturing standards of their parent company KW Suspensions.
I test my good friend Robert's MK7 Golf R with a new adjustable spring kit that works with the factory DCC dampers. Our local shop Pacific German aligned, corner balanced, and installed spacers to further dial in this APR Stage 2 hot hatch.Suspension infoRoberts Mod List:1. Spare tire mod (car didn’t come with a spare however the Euro cars have them). Had to buy Euro back plastic so it didn’t look jankysome people just cut the plastic.2.
Open the center armrest (Armrest did not come from the factory opened for some reason – Something about it not passing some roll over test when things were in it)3.
